Ever after

As the princess said at the end of the movie: i won't love a human.

Ashitaka answered: let's all live in our ways and keep the things going...

What a sad ending of this story as we know they both love each other but were not able to be together.

As my fanfiction, i am planning to write a happy extral ending for the Princss Mononoke.

In my story, Princess will take her wolfmother's set to be the new Wolf god, and Ashitaka will give up his human life and sacfice himself to the deer god to save and rebuilt the forest, so princess still can keep her word for not loving a human, however they can be together because of Ashitaka is a god now and he has the strong power to protect all the other spirits and his princess ever after...

Cool idea, Birdie. Yes, Mononoke Hime doesn't have a Walt Disney ending. I like the way what you propose gets the heroes togather, but is still quite uncompromising because Ashitaka still has to die (to the human world), and the audience will feel that loss.

Can you develop it a bit more - how will Ashitaka forfeit his life? How does the deer god (Shishigami) return?

Hi Birdie,

Yes, we all know Ashitaka and San is meant to be together!

However, like Paul said, maybe there are some ideas that you need to develop a bit more.

You can make it quite dramatic/heroic of how Ashitaka sacrifice his life for the sake of saving the deer god.

We all love dramas, so make it tragic. hehe.

And then you can end the story with 'happily ever after'. Like any other Walt Disney movie. :D

Hi Birdie!

I love reading happy end, especially when it comes to love stories -I know you do too ;)- So Im looking forward to read it. And as Pear jin mentioned, we can see that they are meant to be together!

Amazing the way San is such a powerful departure from the usual cutsy shojo, but I guess that's most Miiyazaki work (think Nausicaa, Chihiro, Sophie, etc).

I guess the reason Miyazaki didn't just get them together at the end is he wanted San to remain kind of untamed, and of course she's so mad about the killing of the Shishigami.

But what a great add-on to picture their next meeting, getting together, etc. Look foward to it.

Birdie, birdie, let us know when you've developed your plots further, ok?
